Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake is a delightful dessert with a splendid flavor combination of warm cinnamon and dark chocolate.

What is a good side effect to getting a puppy? You get a lot of fresh air. I’ve been outside more since getting Milo than I have in over a year. He has puppy energy to burn and needs playtime. He absolutely loves fetching the ball. I wish I could get a photo yet he is too fast. All I get is a big blur. At least it helps me burn energy too. Then I can enjoy a slice of Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake.

It’s so fun to play with a puppy again. Next up will be going for walks. I have to get him used to being on a leash. He’s not too keen on it right now. I’m sure it won’t take long to get him excited about it. He’ll figure it out. And I can’t wait to show him off to the neighborhood. Queue photo of sweet Milo…

Back to the Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake. It’s time again for Bundt Bakers. Our host this month, Lauren at Sew You Think You Can Cook, declared a cinnamon theme. This one was a no-brainer for me. One of my all-time favorite flavor combos is cinnamon and chocolate. All I had to do is a make a few changes to my Cherry Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake and bake away.

One of the changes is the glaze. I had a half of a package of cream cheese in the fridge after making Frosted Pineapple Shortbread Cookies. That meant I got to make cream cheese frosting again. Yippee!!! Only difference is a touch of cinnamon and a little more half-and-half to make it pourable instead of spreadable.

The cake was a hit with my family. I took it as a surprise when we celebrated my mom’s birthday. We went out for dinner and my nephew ordered dessert to go because he said he didn’t want cinnamon cake. Then we got back to mom’s condo and it was time for cake. He tasted a bite and wanted a slice. He also wanted some to take home. I’d call that a winner since he is very picky about dessert.

Do you enjoy cinnamon and cake? If so, this Bundt Bakers month is for you. Scroll down to see all the different bundts baked for the theme. I wish they were all on a big dessert table so I could taste every single one of them. Oh, and take a look at Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Ice Cream too. I’m sure it would be fabulous to go with my cake and many of the other ones in the list below.

Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate chips

For the glaze:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups confectioners sugar sifted
  • 3 tablespoons half-and-half or milk plus more if needed
  • 2 tablespoons semi-sweet mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 12-cup bundt pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Add flour mixture in three additions, alternately with buttermilk in two additions, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not over mix.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool cake in the pan for 10 minutes. Remove cake from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. Top with glaze and garnish with chocolate chips.

For the glaze:

  1. Beat cream cheese, butter, and cinnamon until smooth and combined. Add confectioners sugar and half-and-half. Beat until combined and smooth.
  2. The glaze should be thick enough so it barely runs off a spoon. You may need to add more half-and-half to reach desired consistency. If so, add 1/2 teaspoon at a time.
  3. Spoon glaze over cake. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  4. Keep cake chilled when not serving.

I almost went Mexican chocolate and cinnamon as well, Renee. Such a great combination. What a beautiful Bundt, especially with that lovely thick layer of cream cheese icing on top!

Can you make that as a surprise for my birthday too? It looks amazing. I have to admit that I’m especially drawn to that cream cheese frosting that’s so perfectly draped down the side of the cake. Swoon.

Looove your Bundt cake, Renee, looks just like your puppy wit the freckles of chocolate 😉 I also love to have a puppy, our dogs are fully grown right now (well, one of them just turned 2 but still acts like a puppy with so much energy), but I remember how much fun it was (and how exhausting at times, haha). Congratulations with your bundt and with Milo!

Love that frosting recipe, I contemplated doing a cream cheese frosting for mine but didn’t want something so heavy, the addition of half-and-half is so smart!
