Wine tastings and samplings – I just love them. It was because of a wine tasting/sampling at Whole Foods that I discovered this wine. La Pinot, a Chilean Pinot Noir, was one of the wines featured in an in-store tasting. I rounded the corner and saw the setup and made a beeline for it. What? A free wine tasting while I am shopping – oh yes! It is a brilliant idea if you ask me.
La Pinot is one of the wines from the La Wine Agency. They also have La Bubbly and La Chard (but I have not tasted those yet). The Pinot Noir is a nice, everyday wine. It retails for about $10 and can be found at Whole Foods and in some local markets and restaurants around Charleston, SC. The wine has dark fruit flavors (cherry and pomegranate) and just a hint of spice. There is a slight sour taste at the end but not much at all. The tannins are smooth and it is easy to drink.
There is a hidden gem with this wine. When you finish the bottle you see the inside label. I would give this wine as a gift just because of the surprise of the label. I do not know if they have the same image on each bottle or vintage but I am sure it is interesting:
There is a face smiling back at you when you finish the bottle. How fun! It is the first time I have seen this done with a red wine. A happy face hiding behind the wine. Oh, the vintage is not on the bottle so I do not know the year of the one I purchased. I will purchase it again; to enjoy the wine and to see what image is on the inside. Some friends may just get it as a gift from me as well.
Nice surprises lead to good memories. Have you had a nice surprise with any wine? Share the info and the fun! Cheers!
