Savannah Bee Company to Open Store at Disney Springs

I am an unapologetic honey fanatic.  I treat my trips to grocery stores, farmer’s markets, and health food stores like a high-stakes scavenger hunt.  There is no varietal of honey too obscure for me to find.  I’m not even sure if I can name all the varieties I’ve tried.

Let me see if I can.

  • Orange blossom
  • Black mangrove
  • Blackberry
  • Sage
  • Tupelo
  • Wildflower
  • Raspberry
  • Palmetto
  • Buckwheat

There’s probably a few more that are slipping my mind at the moment.  Never fear, I’ll be able to refresh my memory—and my pantry—when the new Savannah Bee Company store opens at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World.  I’ve visited the kiosk, which stocks a small but lovely variety of honey and honey-infused personal care products.  Now that a full-sized store is about to open, I can’t wait to see the rest of the line.

Savannah Bee Company Honey Flutes with honey pot

Savannah Bee Company was kind enough to send me a few samples of their artisanal honey.  I received two extraordinarily elegant flutes of honey, one of sourwood and one of tupelo.  Tupelo is one of my favorite varieties of honey.  It’s the soprano of honey, high and sweet and ringingly clear.  I was excited to compare it with the sourwood.

I carefully opened each flute.  The seal was reminiscent of a bottle of wine, suiting the beauty of the bottle.  I poured a little of each honey into a spoon.  First, I tasted the tupelo.  It tasted strongly floral, with an herbal edge, and had a light, easily pourable body.  The sourwood, on the other hand, was quite thick.  It tasted of rum and butter, with a woody aroma.  I loved them both!
