When cookbook author Eliza Cross contacted me to ask if I’d like to review a copy of her newest cookbook, Berries: Sweet and Savory Recipes, of course I said “Yes!”
I’m passionate about berries. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries: you name it, I love it. So I was intrigued by the idea of using berries not just for sweet recipes, but for savory recipes as well.
The cookbook is divided into eight recipe sections.

- Jams, preserves, and sauces
- Muffins, breads, and pastries
- Salads and starters
- Main courses
- Cakes and cookies
- Pies and tarts
The Blackberry-Glazed Spiral Ham recipe caught my eye right away, as did the Blueberry Jelly Donuts.
One of the things I liked most about this cookbook was how cleanly it was laid out. No distractions, no clutter, just lovely photos and recipes with type that was large enough to read at a distance. It also had a thorough index that made it easy to look up ingredients and recipes.
With its handy guide to berry picking and prepping, Berries: Sweet and Savory Recipes is the perfect cookbook to pick up for berry lovers. Its pretty style makes it suitable for gift-giving as well, especially when berries are in season!
