Thai Iced Tea

Thai Iced Tea | Magnolia Days

Sweet tea is prevalent in the South. There are thousands of gallons of it consumed on a daily basis. Some make it with a pinch of baking soda which turns it dark brown similar in color to molasses. It is no surprise to sip on a glass so sweet it is reminiscent of maple syrup without the maple flavor. However, there isn’t a single glass of southern sweet tea that can compare to Thai Iced Tea. It is creamy, decadent, and the perfect drink to cool down the heat from a spicy Thai meal.

Thai cuisine is a favorite of mine. I frequent a restaurant close to my house almost on a weekly basis. Recently I took a step into cooking Thai with a spicy beef salad. That started me on my path. To further my journey I needed help. Luckily, Everyday Thai Cooking: Quick and Easy Family Style Recipes by Kathie Chin arrived at my door. It was just what I needed because it is a great resource for a beginner in the world of preparing Thai cuisine.

My thoughts on the cookbook: I may need to get another one because I am sure I will wear my copy out. I’ve already flipped through it many, many times. Pages are bookmarked with little sticky notes. They are bookmarked for two reasons; one for the recipe to make and the other for photography inspiration. Everything from the sauces to desserts looks incredible. The recipes are laid out nicely on the pages and easy to read (good font and size). I also like how you can find most of the ingredients at a regular grocery store.

Thai Iced Tea came out wonderfully. It is exactly how I remember it tasting when I’ve had it at a restaurant. It’s easy too. Thai or black tea is steeped with star anise and sugar. Sweetened condensed milk is stirred in and cooled. It’s poured over ice and topped with evaporated milk. Sip it along with a meal or for a dessert drink. Perhaps also sip on it while deciding which recipe to make next from the cookbook.

Which Thai dish do you enjoy the most? Do you prepare it at home or only have it while dining out? I have so many I want to make and I’m looking forward to cooking them thanks to this book. You can purchase a copy of the cookbook on Amazon by clicking on the photo (affiliate link):

Ooh, this looks like a scrumptious way to drink tea! I love Thai food...but the hubby doesn't...so I tend to eat it when I get together with my sisters. I love a green papaya salad...yum!
