Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 1 bottle red wine Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 green cardamom pod cracked open
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • 1 slice fresh ginger

Instructions

  1. Zest the orange, then juice it.  Add the orange zest and juice and all of remaining ingredients to a large pot or slow-cooker.

  2. Heat until steaming hot, but do not let the mulled wine boil.  Taste and adjust sweetness by adding additional sugar 1 tablespoon at a time, if desired.  Let the mulled wine simmer on low heat (it should steam lightly but never boil) for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.

Recipe Notes

Garnish each serving with an orange slice, a ginger slice, and a cinnamon stick, if desired.  White wine, such as Line 39 Chardonnay, may be substituted for red wine to make white mulled wine.
