Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup white sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or non-stick liner.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Beat butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla to creamed mixture and beat until well combined, scraping down sides of bowl as needed.
  5. Add flour mixture and beat at medium speed until dry ingredients are evenly moistened.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Place sanding sugar in a shallow bowl or on a small plate.
  8. Drop tablespoons of dough into the sugar and roll gently to form dough balls coated with sugar.
  9. Place dough balls 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
  10. Use the bottom of a 1-cup measure to flatten dough balls to about 1/4-inch thick.
  11. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, 10 minutes for softer cookies and 12 minutes for crunchier cookies. (The edges should be golden brown).
  12. Cool cookies on the baking sheets for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
