Have you finished your holiday shopping yet? I haven’t. Christmas is in a few days and I still have to get gifts. I have to do other shopping too like getting groceries for the two family holiday dinners I’m hosting. Are you in a similar situation? The wonderful thing about Monster Cookies Mix is that you can get everything for it while your are at the grocery store. A one stop shop solution.
The cookies mix recipe came from a cookbook. Not just any cookbook, one that is all about Desserts in Jars. I had absolutely no clue what all could be done with jars until I got this book. I grew up thinking mason jars were for two things: canning and holding small things like screws, nuts, and bolts. Now I see all kinds of ways to use the jars for baking, serving, and for special presents.
Making the mix is easy. You can decorate the jar with your own homemade label or download one from the author’s website. I made my label with the help of my amazingly talented friend, Terry. I am craft challenged and could never have done it without her. Remember to include the instructions on how to make the cookies when you give it as a gift.
I have a suggestion for an awesome gift. Put the book and some jars or a Monster Cookie Mix in a basket and wrap with holiday gift cellophane. You can find the book at Target, World Market, or on Amazon. Click on the photo of the book to go to Amazon where you can order it online:

Monster Cookies Mix
Ingredients
For the mix:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 cups rolled oats
- 3/4 cup candy-coated chocolate candies or chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
To make monster cookies:
- 3/4 cup smooth or chunky peanut butter not natural
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
Instructions
-
Mix together the granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Pour into a 1-quart Mason jar.
-
Top with a layer of half of the oats. Add the candies in a layer, and top with a layer of brown sugar. Top with a layer of the remaining oats and then a layer of walnuts. Seal with the lid, decorate the jar if you like, and attach a label with these instructions for the recipient:
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Mix together the peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and eggs in a bowl. Add the contents of this jar. Form the dough into 2-inch balls and set on cookie sheets 2 inches apart. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until the tops of the cookies begin to brown. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

How many cookies does this recipe make? Usually recipes give a count. Got these as a gift - so good but I had no idea if I was remotely close to 2” balls.

This is an older recipe, so I'm not 100% sure, but probably around 2 dozen or so? It would depend on the size of the dough balls.

I want to find a good brownie-in-a-jar mix recipe so I don't have to buy boxes anymore. Thanks for the chance to win!

I'd like to see an apple crumble in a jar. It would probably have to be made with dehydrated fruit and would be fun to try to figure out!

You can bake in glass jars so I'm sure you could use regular apples. There is a classic apple pie recipes in the book so an apple crumble would not be far off.
