Hibiscus Punch Cocktail

Red is the color of love.  Judging by the abundance of crimson in every Valentine’s Day display in every store in the United States of America, this seems to be something of a consensus.  That’s why this recipe from Smirnoff Vodka caught my eye.  It’s unabashedly red, and uses a fascinating ingredient: hibiscus flowers.

Dried hibiscus flowers are used in many preparations.  You can use hibiscus flowers for teas, cocktails, jams, and even tacos!

These aren’t the ornamental hibiscus flowers found in many Southern gardens.  Rather, they’re a relative of hibiscus and okra called “roselle,” or Hibiscus sabdariffa.  Roselle is hardy in zones 9 and 10, and was historically grown in Florida.
