Pear Butter Sparklers

Pear Butter Sparklers | Magnolia Days

Autumn is starting to show its colors here in the South. I look outside and see the leaves on my dogwood tree change from green to muted red. Further in the distance are specks of yellow throughout the woods behind my house. Each day brings a new layer of leaves on the ground. A cool wind blows them around the yard. Then I get out the blower to tidy it all up even if only stays that way for a little while. All that work builds up a thirst. After a long day of leaf blowing, I can relax in the evening while sipping on Pear Butter Sparklers.

A cocktail made with pear butter? Oh yes. I actually had it in mind when making Honey Ginger Pear Butter. I wanted the drink to have more than simply pear flavor. Honey, ginger, and vanilla are wonderful accents for a fall beverage. Also, pear butter gives this cocktail nice texture and color. It is almost like a thin smoothie. Brut sparkling wine lightens it up and keeps it from being too thick. Tiny vanilla seeds float up to the top waiting to dance with your taste buds.

One note when making pear butter sparklers: Turn off your blender after you blend together the pear butter, pear vodka, and lemon juice. You want to stir in the sparkling wine with a spoon. Otherwise you could have quite a bubbly mess going on in the blender. Oh, and if all the ingredients are chilled beforehand you will not need ice. It will be plenty cool enough. You can pour it over ice if desired. I used juice glasses for serving because I thought of brunch.

What is your favorite part of autumn? For me it is the relief from summer heat. Cooler days means more opportunity to open up the house to get fresh air inside. My hounds seem to enjoy the weather too. They bask in the sun while leaves drop all around them. They lift their heads and sniff the air when a breeze blows. It reminds me to take a few moments to soak in the beauty of the season before winter arrives.

Looks delicious! Here in New England we are knee deep in apples and I just made apple butter. Do you think this recipe would be good with Apple butter?

I think it is worth a try with apple butter. Just be sure to use the same flavors when you make the apple butter (honey, lemon, ginger).
