Poison Appletini

Yellow Tail wines for Snow White and The Huntsman movie night

“Uncorking A Movie Night” was a virtual party hosted by Yellow Tail Wine. The party was held via twitter on Monday, September 10th, from 7 to 10pm ET. It celebrated the September 11, 2012 release of Snow White and the Huntsman on DVD/Blu-Ray and Movies on Demand. Thanks to Yellow Tail, NBC, and Movies on Demand, I had a fabulous party pack to hold my own movie night. I invited some friends to come and enjoy good food, wine, cocktails and watching a great movie.

The evening started off with cocktails. The first was “Queen’s Elixir”, a sparkling cocktail made with Yellow Tail bubbles. I always enjoy kicking off a party with bubbly. It sets a festive mood and makes an event more special. The pop of opening the bottle seems to set off smiles. That is a good thing in my book.

The feast began after the first round of cocktails. I set up a burrito and taco bar. It was simple to do and a real crowd-pleaser. There was everything from the beef filling, shells, toppings, chips, and queso. Everyone could make their own the way they like it.

I made the second cocktail to go with the meal. Poison Appletini is fruity with a bit of spice. It is a little sweet too. It seemed to balance well with the spicy food. I am featuring the recipe for it in this post because I think it is a fantastic drink for Halloween. The deep red color plus the name itself fits perfectly for the occasion.

Next came dessert. I set out homemade brownies and cookies. I wanted to have something sweet and not a big cake or pie. Plus plates and forks are not needed for them. They work well for a serve yourself kind of party. I like to keep things casual.

After dessert we watched the movie. What goes with a movie? Popcorn and snacks. Yes, more food. We had to have something to munch on during the movie. That’s what you do in the theater anyway so might as well do it at home. Plus I had this nice sampler pack from The Popcorn Factory to share.

The Yellow Tail wines were a hit too. My friend Dave really liked the merlot, Michael preferred the shiraz, and Terry enjoyed the chardonnay. I sipped on the shiraz while watching the movie. I totally forgot to taste the bubbles by itself when making the cocktails. I must have been distracted by all the fun.

All in all it was a wonderful evening. I am glad I had the opportunity to host a movie night for my friends. And speaking of movie night, Snow White and the Huntsman is one I recommend to see. Be sure to order it today – click on the photo to purchase from Amazon:
